REFLEXOLOGY

Reflexology #01What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a relaxing natural therapy which eliminates toxins, improves blood supply, boosts the immune system and restores energy and balance. It works on the principal that there are reflex areas in the feet which correspond to all the glands, organs and parts of the body. Stimulation of these reflexes can help many health problems by activating the body’s own healing processes.

Reflexology is a serious advance in the health field and should not be confused with massage. It is a holistic therapy, which treats the whole person on all levels. It is not diagnostic or prescriptive. It is a complementary therapy, which means that it sits well alongside orthodox medicine. It should never be used as a replacement for seeking professional medical advice.

History

Foot pressure therapy has been practised in many countries for thousands of years including China over five thousand years ago and Egypt in the time of the Pharoahs.

Reflexology #03
It was developed in the West in the early twentieth century by Eunice Ingham who mapped out the Reflexology foot and devised the techniques used today.

Treatments

Treatments are given with the client fully clothed apart from shoes and socks and either sitting in a reclining chair or lying on a therapy couch. Details of your past medical history and such factors as diet and lifestyle will be discussed in the initial consultation to evaluate your body's needs.

Some reflex points on the feet can be tender to touch so you may feel a little discomfort at times. The pressure used will be adjusted to your comfort however and all in all a reflexology treatment is very relaxing, with many clients drifting off to sleep.
